3.0              PROCEDURE

3.1  Internal water proofing for Harvesting tank, Water sump and Fire sump

Surface preparation

ü  Any cement mortar, dust  on the surface will be removed

ü  If any honeycombing exists in the structural concrete, such defective area will be hacked and patched with construction ground.

ü  The surface will be washed with clean water to be free from dust and dirt.

Application

ü  Prior to application of the waterproofing the surface will be wetted.

ü  The contents of Brushbond TGP is mixed with clear water and ensured proper dispersion of the components. 3 parts of powder shall be added to 1 part of clean water and mixed thoroughly using a mixer

ü  The first coat will be applied on the concrete surface.

ü  On the completion of the first coat, the final coat will be applied cross link to the first coat as per the manufacture’s specification.

Curing period

ü  Brushbond TGP applied area must be kept moist for a minimum of 48 hours.

Curing period

ü  The structure will be pond tested for a minimum of 24 hours.

Protection for the waterproofing application

ü  On the completion of the pond test the internal area of water sump, fire sump and harvesting tank will be protected with a cement sand mortar.

3.2  External water proofing for Harvesting tank, Water sump and lift pit

Surface preparation

ü  Any cement mortar, dust  on the surface will be removed

ü  If any honeycombing exists in the structural concrete, such defective area will be hacked and patched with construction ground.

ü  The surface will be washed with clean water to be free from dust and dirt.

ü  Dewatering will be undertaken to ensure that the area is dry to receive the sheet membrane (if required)

ü  A cement sand fillet (50mmx 50mm) to be laid at the intersection of the lean concrete and the vertical structure.

Application

ü  Bitumen primer ( Bitu primer) will be applied to the surface and allowed to cure prior to areas to receive water proofing membrane treatment.

ü  The sheet membrane will be  the torch laid on the lean concrete and the vertical concrete structure

ü  The sheet membrane will be terminated minimum 300mm from ground floor level.

ü  A water bar will be used in all construction joints

ü  The membrane termination points should be terminated with an aluminum strip that is nailed to the vertical structure and sealed using a bituminous sealant

ü  The aluminium strip to be sealed with using a mastic sealant.

ü  Allow to dry one day and

ü  Place the gauge 500 polythene sheet or 10mm regiform sheet as protection.

ü  Then backfilling will be started.

ü  Pls see attached typical sketch for application

ü  Pls refer attached TDS sheet for more details.

4.0              Quality Assurance/ Inspection and testing

All kinds of inspection for construction shall be carried out by the QA/QC Engineer of Sanken along with consultant representative as per the standard and specification.

However, prior information shall be given to consultant representative at site to proceed necessary checking periodically and make final comment.

Following are used for the quality assurance and control work.

01.  Request for inspection

02.  Pond test approval sheet

5.0 SAFETY PLAN

·         All the dangerous areas must be barricaded

·         At the time of application, adequate ventilation will be provided

·         Gloves will be used when mixing material

·         Safe flat forms for working at higher levels shall be provided.

·         Safety Guard rails shall be provided at the perimeter run.

·         All the electrical wires and sockets such a way that must be covered to safety regulation

·         First aid facilities and vehicles for emergency cases shall be available at site

METHOD STATEMENT FOR PRE CONSRUCTION TERMITE CONTROL TREATMENT

PRE CONSTRUCTION SOIL TREATMENT

Pre Construction Soil Treatment implies laying down a chemical barrier to prevent termites from getting back and forth between wood and soil. Termites need wood for food and soil for moisture, so they constantly travel back and forth between wood and soil. Where this situation does not exist, termites build the “shelter tubes” (Mud tubes) to span foundation walls and other parts of the building that separate wood from the soil. Besides building the tubes in and over foundation walls, termites may also build them inside the walls if constructed of concrete blocks or other porous material. In the case of slab buildings, termites enter through expansion joints, cracks, opening for utility and service connections.

1.0     SCOPE OF WORK

Anti termite treatment which will be covered ground covered by Ground floor slabs.

2.0              EXECUTION & SEQUENCE OF WORK.

ü  Once the backfilling is completed and prior to lay the leveling screed of ground floor slab, 350mm-400mm depth holes will be done along the edge of beams and on entire slab area at 750mm-900mm intervals.

ü  Then the termiticide will be injected by means of pressure injection treatment under high pressure (approximately PSI 250-290) at the rate of 1.5ℓ to 2ℓ per hole

ü  In addition to the above treatment blanket spraying will be carried out on soil surface covered by the leveling screed of ground slab. For this a pressure gun will be used to ensure the penetration of the termiticide solution to the soil and thereby to soak the soil the termiticide will be sprayed at the rate of 2ℓ to 2.5ℓ of the adequate solution per square meter.

ü  Anti-termite treatment will not be done under the base slab of sump, lifts and etc. which are in below the water table.

                                                                    3

3.0              CHEMICAL USED.

The chemical used will be BIFENTHRIN based termiticide (bifenthrin emulsifyable EC-10) which is an environmentally friendly which is approved by the Registrar of Pesticide who is the authority of regulating the pesticide usage in Sri Lanka.

4.0              SAFETY & QUALITY ASSURANCE

ü  Safety Shoes/ Boots, Safety Helmet, Gloves, and masks will be used by the workers. Workers who are working in treated areas for tailing works will wear foot protections and hand gloves.

ü  Technical officers from specialist contractor will supervise the work and approval for chemical treatment will be taken from the engineer in area by area. Treated area will be covered with polytheen till lay the leveling screed.

ü  Once the Contractors’ Engineer and the QA/QC Engineer carried out the inspection, Consultant’s representative will carry out his inspection along with the Contractors’ QA/QC Engineer and make the final approval to precede the work

5.0              WARRANTY (From specialist contractor)

ü  Pre Construction Termite proofing treatment is backed by a 10 years warranty. In the unlikely event of appearance of termites during the warranty period, we will carry out the necessary treatment to free your premises of termites without extra charges.

ü  A warranty certificate will be issued for treated building units in the premises.
